Oratorio

An oratorio is a composition for orchestra, soloists and choir. It differs from an opera in that it doesn't have decor[?], costumes or acting. Oratorios have a biblical theme.

Oratorios (like operas) can contain several elements:

Probably the best known oratorio is the Messiah by Händel. It contains the well known halelujah-chorus[?]. Others well known oratorios include Christmas Oratorio[?] by Johann Sebastian Bach and Mendelsohn's Elijah oratorio[?].
