OpenDoc

OpenDoc was initially invented by Component Integration Laboratories but in 1996 it was adopted by the Object Management Group as a project to establish an alternative compound document standard largely inspired by Microsofts object linking and embedding (OLE).

The most influential developer of OpenDoc was Kurt Piersol[?] from Apple Computer.

OpenDoc is now totally scrapped.
