Olar is a town located in Bamberg County, South Carolina. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 237.

Geography Olar is located at 33°10'49" North, 81°11'3" West (33.180266, -81.184248)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 2.0 km² (0.8 mi²). 2.0 km² (0.8 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 237 people, 111 households, and 71 families residing in the town. The population density is 115.8/km² (301.1/mi²). There are 152 housing units at an average density of 74.3/km² (193.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 52.74% White, 46.41% African American, 0.42% Native American, 0.42% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.00% from two or more races. 0.42% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 111 households out of which 12.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.4% are married couples living together, 9.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 36.0% are non-families. 34.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 17.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.14 and the average family size is 2.70.

In the town the population is spread out with 12.2% under the age of 18, 9.3% from 18 to 24, 24.1% from 25 to 44, 28.3% from 45 to 64, and 26.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 49 years. For every 100 females there are 79.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 80.9 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $31,250, and the median income for a family is $41,964. Males have a median income of $41,250 versus $11,771 for females. The per capita income for the town is $17,113. 10.3% of the population and 7.7% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 0.0% are under the age of 18 and 9.5% are 65 or older.
