Nicolas, comte Luckner

Niklaus, Count Luckner (1722 - 1794), Marshal of France, originated in Cham in eastern Bavaria, and joined the French military in 1763. Becoming commander of the Army of the North in 1792, he gained initial victories, but then had to retreat towards Lille. The Revolutionary Tribunal[?] had him arrested and sentenced to death. He died under the guillotine in Paris in 1794.
