National Public Safety Commission

National Public Safety Commission (国家公安委員会) is an organization officially with a team of around 5 commitees beloging to the cabinet of the Japanese government, overseeing the national security in Japan. It ranks above National Police Agency but essentially a different oraginzation from the police. It is well-known by its shorthand Koan (公安). The chairman is minister.

Historically, the commision polices the activities of communists in Japan and is believed to watch extreme nationalism activists in Japan. Liberalists in Japan have long criticized that secrecy of actual activity of the commision and cautioned that it undermines the right of the Japanese people.
