Narcissism

Narcissism involves "excessive" pre-occupation with the self, an overdose on self-esteem.

Sigmund Freud identified narcissism as a stage or a socio-pathology, naming the phenomenon after the figure of Narcissus in Greek mythology.

Extreme narcissism, or narcissistic personality disorder, may exemplify those types of mental affliction which "infect" other people near the sufferer and spread as a memetic world view.

One could characterise extreme nationalism, jingoism or even chauvinism as collective narcissisms.
