Mount Kinabalu

Situated in Sabah, Borneo, Mount Kinabalu is South East Asia's highest mountain, at 4093 m above sea level. Known as one of the easiest 'highest mountains' to climb, Kinabalu can be climbed by a person of normal health, and requires no mountaineering equipment.

The mountain is contained within a national park, and features a large variety of fauna, including wild pitcher plants.

Tourist information Mount Kinabalu is most easily reached from Kota Kinabalu[?], the administrative capital of Sabah. Huts within the national park can be booked by telephoning the parks' authority. A typical ascent of the mountain involves a first overnight stay at the base, followed by an ascent to some huts about 75% of the way to the top. Rise very early the next day (around 3am) and begin the steeper ascent to the peak, in time for sunrise. Then, descend to the base camp in time for evening.
