Montoursville, Pennsylvania

Montoursville is a borough located in Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. As of the 2000 census, the borough had a total population of 4,777.

Geography Montoursville is located at 41°15'10" North, 76°54'56" West (41.252729, -76.915507)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 10.8 km² (4.2 mi²). 10.5 km² (4.0 mi²) of it is land and 0.3 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 3.12% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 4,777 people, 2,067 households, and 1,393 families residing in the borough. The population density is 456.5/km² (1,181.0/mi²). There are 2,169 housing units at an average density of 207.3/km² (536.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the borough is 99.02% White, 0.10% African American, 0.06% Native American, 0.33% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.06% from other races, and 0.42% from two or more races. 0.42% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 2,067 households out of which 28.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.6% are married couples living together, 10.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.6% are non-families. 29.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.31 and the average family size is 2.84.

In the borough the population is spread out with 23.4% under the age of 18, 5.2% from 18 to 24, 26.1% from 25 to 44, 22.6% from 45 to 64, and 22.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 42 years. For every 100 females there are 90.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 85.4 males.

The median income for a household in the borough is $37,484, and the median income for a family is $44,583. Males have a median income of $33,750 versus $24,449 for females. The per capita income for the borough is $19,648. 4.2% of the population and 2.4% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 2.4% are under the age of 18 and 5.1% are 65 or older.
