Lycoming County, Pennsylvania

Lycoming County is a county located in the U.S. State of Pennsylvania. As of 2000, the population is 120,044. Its county seat is Williamsport6.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 3,221 km² (1,244 mi²). 3,198 km² (1,235 mi²) of it is land and 23 km² (9 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.72% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 120,044 people, 47,003 households, and 31,680 families residing in the county. The population density is 38/km² (97/mi²). There are 52,464 housing units at an average density of 16/km² (42/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 93.91% White, 4.32% African American, 0.21% Native American, 0.42% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.26% from other races, and 0.86% from two or more races. 0.67% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 47,003 households out of which 29.90% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.10% are married couples living together, 10.30% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.60% are non-families. 26.90% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.90% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.44 and the average family size is 2.95.

In the county, the population is spread out with 23.30% under the age of 18, 9.70% from 18 to 24, 27.50% from 25 to 44, 23.40% from 45 to 64, and 16.00% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 95.60 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 92.80 males.
