The nearest mainline railway station to the commercial center of Mitcham is Tooting Station[?], while Mitcham Junction is nearer the historic Cricket Green Conservation Area[?].

There is no longer a junction at Mitcham Junction: one of the two lines that crossed there, the West Croydon to Wimbledon line, has become part of Tramlink and now takes a new route over the remaining Network Rail tracks and through the Tramlink stop. The former Mitcham railway station is now a Tramlink stop on this route.
