Medb

In Irish mythology Medb is another name for the goddess-queen Maeve. Her name is said to mean 'she who intoxicates', and some authors think 'Medb' is related to the term 'mead' (although 'mead' is considered to be Anglo-Saxon in origin and not Gaelic).

She was involved in several legends. One of them said that only a man that could mate with her could be a king of Ireland; in this sense it is said that she was the wife of several Irish kings. Another legend, maybe the most known, is that of the war for the brown bull of Ulster. This goddess was associated with fertility and royal authority.

Medb was the queen of Connacht and Ailill's wife.
