Maeve

In Celtic mythology, Queen Maeve of Connacht was a bitter enemy of the hero Cuchulainn. When they warred, she convinced his best friend, Ferdiad, to fight on her side. He died in battle, as did Cuchulainn, though Cuchulainn managed to hold off her army alone for some time, by tying himself to a tree in order to remain standing.
