Matthew Carter

Matthew Carter (born 1937) is a type designer who designs digital fonts. Previously with Linotype, he was the co-founder of the Bitstream type foundry[?] in 1981, and in 1991 left Bitstream to form the Carter & Cone[?] type foundry with Cherie Cone. He is the son of Harry Carter[?] (1901-1982), who was also a type designer.

Matthew Carter's typefaces include: Bell Centennial, Cascade Script, Bitstream Charter, ITC Galliard, Georgia, Olympian, Mantinia, Miller, Shelley Script, Snell Roundhand, Skia, Sophia, Tahoma[?], Verdana.

Revivals which Carter worked on include: Auriol, Big Caslon, New Century Schoolbook, ITC Souvenir, Cochin, Gando, Helvetica.
