Marine Corps Air Station, Cherry Point

Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS), Cherry Point, is a United States airfield located in Cherry Point, North Carolina. It was constructed in 1941, and was commissioned in 1942 as Cunningham Field, named in honor of United States Marine Corps aviator, LtCol. Alfred A. Cunningham, but was later renamed.

During World War II, the facility was used to train Marines for service in the Pacific theater, and also served as a base for anti-submarine operations. Cherry Point also assisted during the Korean War by deploying three A-6 Intruder squadrons to the Far East.
