Malad City, Idaho

Malad City is a city located in Oneida County, Idaho. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 2,158. The city is the county seat of Oneida County6.

Geography Malad City is located at 42°11'27" North, 112°14'57" West (42.190887, -112.249214)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 4.3 km² (1.7 mi²). 4.3 km² (1.7 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 2,158 people, 797 households, and 561 families residing in the city. The population density is 498.9/km² (1,294.6/mi²). There are 908 housing units at an average density of 209.9/km² (544.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 98.01% White, 0.14% African American, 0.37% Native American, 0.23% Asian, 0.09% Pacific Islander, 0.56% from other races, and 0.60% from two or more races. 1.85% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 797 households out of which 34.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.5% are married couples living together, 6.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.5% are non-families. 27.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 16.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.65 and the average family size is 3.24.

In the city the population is spread out with 29.9% under the age of 18, 7.1% from 18 to 24, 22.6% from 25 to 44, 20.0% from 45 to 64, and 20.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 92.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 92.2 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $32,235, and the median income for a family is $38,068. Males have a median income of $29,125 versus $19,338 for females. The per capita income for the city is $13,926. 10.0% of the population and 6.2% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 9.7% are under the age of 18 and 13.8% are 65 or older.
