Macrinus

Marcus Opellius Macrinus, Roman emperor (born about AD 165, reigned 217-218).

Macrinus was Praetorian prefect[?], effectively second in command of the Empire, under his predecessor Caracalla. He was proclaimed Emperor April 11, 217.

Macrinus was unable to consolidate his rule, and Julia Maesa[?] (Caracalla's aunt) and her daughter Julia Bassiana[?] raised a revolt in favor of Bassiana's son Heliogabalus on May 15, 218. He was killed in battle against the Severan forces on June 8, 218.
