Macomb County, Michigan

Macomb County is a county located in the U.S. State of Michigan. As of 2000, the population is 788,149. Its county seat is Mt. Clemens[?]6.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,476 km² (570 mi²). 1,244 km² (480 mi²) of it is land and 231 km² (89 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 15.68% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 788,149 people, 309,203 households, and 210,876 families residing in the county. The population density is 633/km² (1,640/mi²). There are 320,276 housing units at an average density of 257/km² (667/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 92.66% White, 2.71% African American, 0.31% Native American, 2.14% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.39% from other races, and 1.77% from two or more races. 1.58% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 309,203 households out of which 31.10% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.30% are married couples living together, 10.10% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.80% are non-families. 26.90% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.30% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.52 and the average family size is 3.09.

In the county the population is spread out with 24.10% under the age of 18, 8.00% from 18 to 24, 31.50% from 25 to 44, 22.80% from 45 to 64, and 13.70% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 96.00 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 92.90 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $52,102, and the median income for a family is $62,816. Males have a median income of $48,303 versus $30,215 for females. The per capita income for the county is $24,446. 5.60% of the population and 4.00% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 7.00% are under the age of 18 and 6.40% are 65 or older.
