Ludwigslust (district)

Ludwigslust is a Kreis (district) in the western part of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Germany. Area 2517 km², population 132,100 (1999). The district's capital is Ludwigslust.

The district is roughly situated between the Elbe river and the city of Schwerin. It is the largest district of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, but very sparsely populated. After the German reunification the two districts of Hagenow and Ludwigslust were established; they were merged to the today's district of Ludwigslust in 1994.
