Leuven (Louvain in French) is a municipality located in the Belgian province of Flemish Brabant, of which it is the capital. The municipality comprises the city of Leuven proper and the towns of Heverlee[?], Kessel-Lo[?] and Wilsele[?]. On January 1st, 2000 Leuven had a total population of 88,014 (43,153 males and 44,861 females). The total area is 57.65 km² which gives a population density of 1,526.70 inhabitants per km².

It has the largest and oldest university (15th century) of Belgium, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (KULeuven) which makes it a real "student city" from October until June.

Leuven is also well known in Belgium for its summer rock festival Marktrock[?].
