Loa loa filaria

A microscopic worm which causes the disease loa loa filariasis in humans. It is found in the rainforests of central Africa.

Humans contract this disease through the bite of a horse fly.

The disease can cause red itchy swellings below the skin called "Calabar swellings[?]".

The disease is treated with the drug notezine (diethylcarbamazine).
