Lamma Island

Lamma Island (南丫島 in pinyin: nan2 ya1 dao3; in Jyutping[?]: naam4 ngaa1 dou2; in penkyamp: Nam4 Nga1 Dou2 is a small island south of the main island of Hong Kong.

Lamma provides an alternative to the hectic living in the city. Buildings higher than three stories are prohibited and there are no roads and hence, no automobiles. There is significant expatriate community on Lamma Island, many of whom engage in alternative lifestyles.

The two main towns of Lamma Island are Yung Shue Wan and Sok Kwu Wan. A trail between the two towns offers a picturesque walk.

Lamma Island is also home to China Light and Power[?]'s main energy station for Hong Kong, with its distinctive three very tall chimney stacks, visible from the surrounding islands.
