Lachish

Lachish was a town in the west of Judah. In the 8th century BC it was the second most important city of Judah.

The city was heavily fortified and guarded the border with the Philistines. In 701 BC the city played a key role in the revolt of king Hezekiah against Assyria.

Although it offered heavy resistance to the Assyrians it fell in their hands.
