Lachine, Quebec

Lachine is a former city in southwestern Quebec, Canada, on the Island of Montreal; pop. 35,171 (Statistics Canada, 1996).

On January 1, 2002 it become a borough of the City of Montreal.

Lachine, from French la Chine (China), was named in 1669 mockery of its then owner Robert Cavelier de La Salle who explored the interior of North America trying to find a passage to Asia.
