La Bourdonnais

Bertrand-François Mahé, count of La Bourdonnais or of Labourdonnais (in French: comte de La Bourdonnais) (Saint-Malo 1699 - Paris 1753) was a French sailor and administrator.

Born in Saint-Malo (Brittany), La Bourdonnais served as governor of the French islands of La Réunion and Mauritius in the Indian Ocean (1735 - 1746), and achieved military success against the British in India (1746).

He spent three years (1748 - 1751) in the Bastille before acquittal on charges of treason.
