She was educated at Stanley Green High School[?]. In 1970 she was on Paisley Town Council[?] and by 1972 was appointed Justice of the Peace. In 1974 she became a councillor in her local Renfrew District Council[?] and in 1979 went on to Strathclyde Regional Council[?].
She is widowed and has one son and two daughters from her marriage.
