Kandiyohi County, Minnesota

Kandiyohi County is a county located in the U.S. State of Minnesota. As of 2000, the population is 41,203. Its county seat is Willmar6.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,232 km² (862 mi²). 2,062 km² (796 mi²) of it is land and 171 km² (66 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 7.65% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 41,203 people, 15,936 households, and 10,979 families residing in the county. The population density is 20/km² (52/mi²). There are 18,415 housing units at an average density of 9/km² (23/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 93.62% White, 0.51% African American, 0.33% Native American, 0.38% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 4.17% from other races, and 0.91% from two or more races. 8.00% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 15,936 households out of which 33.10% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.70% are married couples living together, 7.50% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.10% are non-families. 25.70% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.80% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.53 and the average family size is 3.05.

In the county the population is spread out with 26.60% under the age of 18, 9.50% from 18 to 24, 26.50% from 25 to 44, 22.50% from 45 to 64, and 14.90% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 98.00 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 94.90 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $39,772, and the median income for a family is $48,016. Males have a median income of $32,272 versus $22,128 for females. The per capita income for the county is $19,627. 9.20% of the population and 5.90% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 11.10% are under the age of 18 and 7.90% are 65 or older.
