United States Major General John Vines (born ~1950) was commander of the 82nd Airborne Division during the U.S. occupation of Afghanistan. He was responsible for tactical combat missions. On May 27, 2003, Vines replaced Lt. Gen. Dan K. McNeill[?] as the commanding general of U.S. and coalition forces in Afghanistan.
