Jean-Baptiste Lamarck

(Much more details is provided in the article called Lamarck.)

Lamarck is most well known for his theory of evolution involving the transmission of acquired traits. This theory of evolution was largely discarded after Charles Darwin proposed a much simpler mechanism for descent with modification. Some geneticists have claimed to have found evidence of adaptive mutation[?] in some situations, which would be similar to Lamarck's theory. However, this explanation of the observed phenomena is not universally accepted and is the subject of vigorous debate.
