Jean-Baptiste Lamarck

Lamarck is most well known for his theory of evolution involving the transmission of acquired traits. This theory of evolution was largely discarded after Charles Darwin proposed a much simpler mechanism for descent with modification. Some geneticists have claimed to have found evidence of adaptive mutation[?] in some situations, which would be similar to Lamarck's theory. However, this explanation of the observed phenomena is not universally accepted and is the subject of vigorous debate.
