This group strives to promote traditional forms of Islam, and explicitly rejects puritanical and violent forms of Islam, such as the Wahhabi Islam practised by Saudi Arabia, the Taliban, and many Islamic terrorist organizations. Their leadership has been working to expose and fight against fundamentalist and violent Islamist groups.
Controversial Islamic groups that support Islamist forms of Islam, such as the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) have consistently opposed moderate Muslims from speaking out on these issues. Members of the Islamic Supreme Council of America have come under death threats and harassment from fundamentalist American Muslims.
