Irma la Douce

Irma la Douce is a 1963 comedy film which tells the story of a naive French policeman who raids a house of prostitution, only to find his superior there. Fired from his job, he finds himself unwittingly becoming a pimp for a young prostitute with whom he falls in love. It stars Jack Lemmon, Shirley MacLaine, Lou Jacobi[?] and Grace Lee Whitney[?].

The movie was adapted by Billy Wilder and I.A.L. Diamond[?] from the play by Alexandre Breffort[?]. It was directed by Wilder.

It won the Academy Award for Original Music Score and was nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role (Shirley MacLaine) and Best Cinematography, Color.

Irma la Douce was remade for French television in 1972.
