Industrial rock

Initially, Industrial rock music grew as an offshoot of abstract music[?] known as music concrete, which was made by manipulating cut sections of recording tape, and adding very early sound output from analog electronics devices.

Contemporary Industrial music is dance club[?]-oriented, it often focuses on brutality and violent imagery. Reliance on heavy distortion pioneered by heavy metal typifies the genre. Sequenced, distorted electronic drums provide the beat. Tortured vocals generally set the mood. Contemporary Industrial music is essentially stripped down heavy metal with electronic drums and FM synthesizers.
