Immigration and Naturalization Service

The Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) was a part of the United States Department of Justice which used to handle legal and illegal immigration and naturalization.

Most of its functions have now been divided into two Bureaus (1) Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services[?] (BCIS) handling immigration processing and citizenship services (i.e. naturalization, but not the Border Patrol[?]. The border and enforcement activities of the INS will be handled by the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (BICE) of the Directorate of Border and Transportation Security[?] (DBTS) of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
