Hugo is a name derived from Old High German[?]. Originally "hugu" is the word for spirit or mind. The English form is Hugh.


The character of Hugo, Bart's evil twin, was introduced in the episode of The Simpsons Tree House of Horror VII[?], airdate November 27, 1996. In this episode Bart realizes that his parents lied to him for his whole life because he didn't know he had an evil twin brother who was living in his attic. Bart goes into the attic to see who's living there but he had set Hugo free. Now his family was in big trouble. Well at least that's what they thought. When Bart's parents, Marge Simpson and Homer Simpson, get there they immediately call Dr. Julius Hibbert they in great hurry go to look for Hugo. Bart volunteer to stays home thinking that would be the safest place for him. But a few minutes later he realizes Hugo is sharing the same air as him. Hugo thinks it was cruel to separate him and Bart. So Hugo has an idea, he wants to sew Bart and him back together. When Marge, Homer, and Dr. Hibbert show up and try to avoid Hugo from sewing Bart on to him. Then Dr. Hibbert realizes that Hugo isn't evil, but Bart is.
