Holdenby House

Holdenby House is a historic large house in Northamptonshire, built from 1583 by Sir Christopher Hatton[?]. who was financially ruined by its expense. It passed to the Crown in 1605, and was used by James I. On February 16, 1647, Charles I was brought here by the Scots and handed over to Parliament. He remained here until removed the by the army in June 1647. Holdenby later (1709) was bought by the Marlborough family, whose descendants in the female line still have it.
