Holdenby House is a historic large house in
Northamptonshire, built from
1583 by Sir
Christopher Hatton[?]. who was financially ruined by its expense. It passed to the Crown in
1605, and was used by
James I. On
February 16,
1647,
Charles I was brought here by the Scots and handed over to Parliament. He remained here until removed the by the army in June 1647.
Holdenby later (
1709) was bought by the
Marlborough family, whose descendants in the female line still have it.
