Haralson County is a county located in the U.S. State of Georgia. As of 2000, the population is 25,690. The county's county seat is Buchanan, Georgia6.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 733 km² (283 mi²). 731 km² (282 mi²) of it is land and 3 km² (1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.37% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 25,690 people, 9,826 households, and 7,192 families residing in the county. The population density is 35/km² (91/mi²). There are 10,719 housing units at an average density of 15/km² (38/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 92.97% White, 5.40% African American, 0.25% Native American, 0.34% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.20% from other races, and 0.83% from two or more races. 0.56% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 9,826 households out of which 33.50% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.70% are married couples living together, 11.30% have a female householder with no husband present, and 26.80% are non-families. 23.00% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.20% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.58 and the average family size is 3.03.

In the county the population is spread out with 26.10% under the age of 18, 8.10% from 18 to 24, 29.20% from 25 to 44, 23.60% from 45 to 64, and 13.00% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 95.20 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 91.20 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $31,656, and the median income for a family is $38,373. Males have a median income of $31,816 versus $20,821 for females. The per capita income for the county is $15,823. 15.50% of the population and 11.40% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 18.10% are under the age of 18 and 16.10% are 65 or older.
