Hannes Alfvén, full name Hannes Olof Gösta Alfvén, (1908-1995) was a Swedish astrophysicist. Father of Plasma cosmology. He was best known for his work in plasma physics, although he did notable work with solar phenomenon and aurorae as well. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1970 for his work with magnetohydrodynamics (MHD). Alfvén waves[?] (low frequency hydromagnetic plasma oscillations) are named in his honor.
