Grayson County is a county located in the U.S. State of Texas. As of 2000, the population is 110,595. Its county seat is Sherman6.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,536 km² (979 mi²). 2,418 km² (934 mi²) of it is land and 118 km² (46 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 4.67% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 110,595 people, 42,849 households, and 30,208 families residing in the county. The population density is 46/km² (118/mi²). There are 48,315 housing units at an average density of 20/km² (52/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 87.20% White, 5.85% African American, 1.31% Native American, 0.57% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 2.90% from other races, and 2.13% from two or more races. 6.80% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 42,849 households out of which 32.10% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.20% are married couples living together, 11.40% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.50% are non-families. 25.50% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.40% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.51 and the average family size is 3.00.

In the county, the population is spread out with 25.30% under the age of 18, 9.30% from 18 to 24, 27.60% from 25 to 44, 22.80% from 45 to 64, and 15.10% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 94.00 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 90.60 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $37,178, and the median income for a family is $45,048. Males have a median income of $32,998 versus $23,414 for females. The per capita income for the county is $18,862. 11.30% of the population and 8.40% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 13.80% are under the age of 18 and 10.10% are 65 or older.
