Goran Bregovic

Goran Bregovic is one of the most recognizable composers of the Balkans. He was born in Sarajevo, Bosnia in former Yugoslavia to a Croatian father and a Serbian mother. The cult rock group White Button that he founded at the age of 16 became one of the most popular groups of East Europe between the late 1970s and mid 1980s. He was convinced by the famous film director Emir Kusturica[?] to work for the film industry, a decision which gave way to a variety of brilliant soundtracks for such films as Time of the Gypsies, Queen Margot, Underground and Arizona Dream. His music carries both Slavian and Gypsy themes and is a fusion of popular music with traditional polyphonic music of the Balkans, tango and brass bands. He is currently living in Paris.
