In
Norse mythology, the third chain which the dwarves fashioned to restrain
Fenris was called
Gleipnr or
Gleipnir. It was made of six ingredients: the sound of a cat's footfall, the beard of a woman, the roots of a mountain, bear's sinews, fish's breath, and bird's spittle. Gleipnir was slender and smooth as silk.
Skirnir,
Freyr's messenger, brought it back to
Asgard. The gods called the wolf, showed him the band, and challenged him to test his strength against it. It restrained
Fenris until the wolf slipped its leash at the end of time,
Ragnarok
