Gas-electric hybrid engine

A gas-electric hybrid engine is a type of engine that relies on an electric engine to accelerate to cruising speed whereupon it converts to gasoline power which powers the car at crusing speed and recharges the battery.

The gas-electric hybrid uses much less gasoline than conventional internal combustion engines and does not have the limitations in range that have been a problem for traditional electric automobiles[?].

This type of engine is used in hybrid electric automobiles which have begun to enter the market as of 2002.
