Garret Augustus Hobart (June 3, 1844-November 21, 1899) was 24th Vice President of the United States. He was born in Long Branch, Monmouth County, New Jersey, and graduated from Rutgers College in 1865. He was admitted to the bar, and practiced in Paterson, New Jersey.

Hobart served in the New Jersey state Assembly from 1872 to 1876, serving as speaker in 1874. He was a member of the state Senate from 1876 to 1882, serving as its president from 1881. He was nominated as the Republican candidate for Vice President on the ticket with William McKinley, and was elected in 1896, serving from March 4, 1897, until his death.
