Friedrich August Kekulé von Stradonitz

Friedrich August Kekulé von Stradonitz (1829 - 1896) was a German organic chemist.

Born in Darmstadt. He was professor at Ghent (1858-1865) and at Bonn. He made studies of various carbon compounds, especially benzene, for the structure of which he developed the ring theory and valences, in 1857 Kekulé proposed that carbon was tetravalent.
