Electropop

Electropop was a particular style of Synthesised pop music which flourished during the early 1980s although the first examples were made in the late 1970s .

Although definitions are difficult Electropop was characterised by a cold, harsh, robotic, electronic sound, which was largely due to the limitations of the basic synthesiser technology of the time.

Elecropop relied on simple repetitive, elecronicaly generated rythms. Although unlike later forms of electronic music its emphasis was more on light pop than dance. Electropop was closely intertwined with the New Romantic phenomenon of the early 1980s.
