Edward Mitchell Bannister was an American painter in the style of the FrenchBarbizon school[?] who painted the [[New England[[ landscape. With few exceptions (he won a bronze medal at the 1876Philadelphia Centennial[?]) Bannister was largely unknown because of the virulent racism of the times.
