Edward DeBono

Edward de Bono was born in Malta in 1933 and holds a Ph.D. from Cambridge and an M.D. from the University of Malta[?]. A Rhodes Scholar, de Bono is regarded internationally as a leading "thinker about thinking" and is probably best known for creating the concept of "lateral thinking[?]."

De Bono's work focuses on understanding the mind as a self-organizing[?] information system and in creating provocative tools for generating new ideas. But this man, who has written "62 books with translations into 37 languages," is nevertheless not as widely known for the sheer breadth and quality of his work. He has spent the last 30 years teaching thinking, which has led to numerous invitations by governments, corporations, organisations and individuals to speak either publicly or privately on matters of national and international interest.

No other writer has attempted to detail the range of method and application of creative thinking, and no other author who has written on this subject is able to explain the mental activity used with as much insight as de Bono. In this way Edward de Bono has made areas of psychology and philosophy unusually approachable and enjoyable.

Many of today's top 100 companies will have used many of the methods created by de Bono, and will either have been played out during sessions designed to explore or simply think before action. De Bono has a network of trainers who administer officially trained De Bono thinking methods, but many other trainers will use them or parts of them even when not specifically trained.

Many products and services in your home and life have been developed by actual deliberate deployment of De Bono methods, or methods using innovative thinking whose processes are explained by de Bono.

An early work called The Five Day Course in Thinking (with a foreword by Isaac Asimov) included a cardboard game which could be pulled out and played, called the L Game invented by de Bono because he loved to play games but hated concentrating on a large number of pieces.
