Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 72.8 km² (28.1 mi²). 72.6 km² (28.0 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.18% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 1,434 people, 436 households, and 365 families residing in the township. The population density is 19.7/km² (51.1/mi²). There are 467 housing units at an average density of 6.4/km² (16.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 97.28% White, 0.98% African American, 0.77% Native American, 0.07% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.07% from other races, and 0.84% from two or more races. 0.91% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 436 households out of which 44.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 70.4% are married couples living together, 7.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 16.1% are non-families. 13.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
