Dogma (movie)

Dogma is a 1999 movie comedy, written and directed by Kevin Smith, starring Alanis Morissette as God, Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Linda Fiorentino[?], Alan Rickman, Salma Hayek, Chris Rock, Jason Lee[?], Jason Mewes[?] and George Carlin. The film's comedic portrayal of the Catholic church caused much controversy in many countries, resulting in long delays in the film's release and even a death threat against Smith.

Plot synopsis

Two fallen angels (Damon and Affleck) attempt to return to heaven by taking advantage of a blanket amnesty declared by a Cardinal (Carlin) in New Jersey in celebration of the anniversary of his church. Since this would prove God incorrect when He declared that they would never return to Heaven, this will inadvertently threaten the existence of all creation, ending the world. The Last Scion (that is, Jesus great-great-great-etc. niece) (Fiorentino) must stop them, aided by Rufus, the 13th apostle (Rock), who was left out of the Bible because he was black, and prophets Jay and Silent Bob.
