Dialog box

Dialog boxes are special pop-up windows which are used by computer programs or by the operating system to display information to the user, or to get a response if needed.

A dialog box normally halts the operation of the application which produces it in the sense that the user must acknowlege it in some way or provide information before she can continue to work with the program.

The common dialog boxes include program termination notice or confirmation due to crashing[?] or intentional closing by user.
