Definitely Maybe

Definitely Maybe is the highly acclaimed debut album by Britpop band Oasis. It was released in 1994 (see 1994 in music) on Creation Records[?]. Throughout the 1980s, British rock had been fracturing into numerous genres, none of which could dominate the charts for long. Along with bands like Blur and The Verve, Oasis unified these genres, synth pop, dream pop, jangle pop[?], twee pop, shoegazing, New Wave, and formed a new genre, Britpop, which would go on to dominate the British charts for much of the mid-1990s.

The anthem "Columbia" was what broke the band, and Britpop, into mainstream British audiences. It became one of the biggest UK singles of the decade. Creation Records had wanted to release "Bring It on Down" as the first single, but Noel Gallagher prevailed and Oasis went on to become a British sensation.

On the Billboard Music Charts, Definitely Maybe hit #1 on the Heatseekers chart and #58 on pop albums chart.

The song "Live Forever" has been voted the best Oasis song by the band's fans of its official website.
